An independent tree-lined driveway leads to the brand new, honeycomb-hued Villa Narcissos – an outstanding retreat in Kefalonia. Blessed with postcard-worthy views thanks to its elevated location on the hillside above Lassi, perfumed by citrus and pine, this is the ideal retreat for a couple or a small family looking for a lavish Greek treat.

All rooms are set on one level leading directly out to the pool terrace and gardens, comprising two bedrooms, a kitchen and open plan living and dining room. The villa is tastefully decorated; the exposed stone in the living areas give things a laid-back, home-from-home feel, while the neutral grey colour palette adds a contemporary feel to the décor.

With neatly kept, beautiful gardens framing the property and the sapphire Ionian Sea as a backdrop, views don’t get much easier on the eye. The best panoramas are savoured from the large pool terrace with multiple seating and lounging areas – at sunset when the sun disappears into the sea, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were relaxing in a far-flung Caribbean hideaway!

You’re likely to find leaving the villa difficult but if you can be convinced, you’re just a short drive from Lakithra, home to pretty churches, traditional tavernas and a village bakery and patisserie. Meanwhile Argostoli is considered Kefalonia’s shopping capital, where stylish boutiques line the pedestrian shopping street of Lithostroto. The area is rich in culture too, home to the 19th century Drapano Bridge and an archaeological museum, hosting a vast collection of ancient findings.
