Mamma Mia's Skopelos Filming Spots
Welcome to Skopelos, home to beautiful beaches, stunning landscapes and full of Greek charm, but did you know this paradise was also home to Hollywood stars? ABBA fans may already know that this beautiful island was the shooting location for the blockbuster hit Mamma Mia! With a villa holiday in Skopelos, you’re never far from the iconic spots that made their way to the silver screen, so beautiful you’ll be saying my my, how can I resist them!
Skiathos Port
Start your sightseeing tour before you even get to the island! The old port of Skiathos was of course where Sam and Harry missed their ferry, before Bill offered them a ride to the island on his boat, the first time all three fathers meet. With our complimentary ferry transfers from Skiathos to Skopelos, try not to make the same mistake Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth did on your villa holiday, Stellan Skarsgard won’t be there to help you out!
Glysteri Beach
As you reach the mythical shores of Skopelos, you may spot a familiar looking beach that has risen to fame with locals and tourists alike. Glysteri beach was the shooting destination for the famous scene where Sophie and her dads jump off the rocks after sailing around the shore, alongside the scene where Donna picks her friends up in her jeep, and where Sophie sets off from villa Donna on a donkey! With the beautiful olive groves atop the surrounding hills, the dramatic rocky landscape and the stunning sun, be sure to pay this beach a visit with a Skopelos villa holiday at Villa Elena Glysteri.
Kastani Beach
On the opposite side of the island from Glysteri, Kastani was another favourite for the filming of Mamma Mia. Whilst lounging on the warm sands, you may burst into song, with the iconic “Lay All Your Love on Me” scene filmed in a quiet corner of this popular beach. Though the wooden pier is no longer there, you’ll still be able to recognise this shooting spot thanks to the rocky surroundings and tall trees. With a stay at Villa Terracotta, you’ll only be a short drive to this gorgeous destination.
Chapel of Agios Ioannis
Arguably one of the most famous shooting locations in the world, the tiny Chapel of Agios Ioannis sits atop the famous Mamma Mia cliff, and was the filming location for Sophie and Sky’s wedding, alongside the iconic “The Winner Takes It All” performance. With a stay in any of our villas in Skopelos Town, make the drive through the winding hills until you reach this famous destination on the north east coast. Walk the same path that stars such as Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried took back in 2007 and find yourself blown away by the breathtaking views from this dramatic clifftop chapel.
Agnontas
Though this little seaside town wasn’t featured in the film, Agontas heavily influenced the film makers in their creation of the fantasy in “Money, Money, Money”, thanks to its charming houses and private boats that make this destination so unique.
Amarandos Cove
A stunning location featured in the film, and for good reason, is Amarandos Cove. Home to the scenes where “Honey Honey” and “Our Last Summer” were sung, this picturesque spot is a must see when staying in Panormos, just a short drive away. Admire the beautiful scenery and the picturesque three pines that have become a symbol of Skopelos.
All this and more is waiting for you with a villa holiday in Skopelos. Take a look at our range of hand-picked villas and find your new home away from home waiting for you on this gorgeous island.
