In the old part of the city overlooked by the imposing 16th century Armacao de Pera Fort, admire well-preserved traditional fisherman's houses and a 16th-century chapel as you navigate the narrow-cobbled streets and tree-lined squares. Sample Portuguese specialities in one of the family-run restaurants – the seafood is as fresh as it gets – and pick up handcrafted jewellery and textiles from the quirky shops. Being in a central location, the town is very close to other popular attractions in the area including the town of Albufeira, the award-winning vineyards of Quinta dos Vales and several golf courses.
