Kerkyra Old Town
The capital of the island Kerkyra, also known as Corfu Old Town, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is truly captivating. Immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of busy squares or get lost in the intriguing windy alleyways the old town has to offer.
Enter the city via the Old Fort on the Eastern side, which was built in the 13th Century to help defend the island against attack. This beautiful fort is worth the visit for the views alone, but you can also learn more about the intriguing history of the city at one of the museums here. Seen it before? The Old Fort was the location of a scene from James Bond film For Your Eyes Only!
Make time to visit the Old Citadel, a Venetian fortress open to the public, and the Church of St George, an ancient style church which is lit up when the sun goes down. Make sure you take your comfortable shoes as the streets are paved with cobblestones and schedule some time in to your trip to stop for Greek meze at one of the many cafes and restaurants!
Canal D’Amour
Situated within the resort of Sidari, you will find the famous Canal D’Amour which remains popular with tourists and locals alike despite the fact that its rocky arch has long crumbled. Translating as the ‘Channel of Love’, the Canal D’Amour is a natural canal created by impressive rock formations and filled with crystal clear water. Looking for love? Rumour has it that if you swim in here you will find your soul mate!
There is so much to see in Sidari including lush countryside and unique sandstone cliffs, it is well worth taking a day trip to this resort. Sidari also boasts award-winning beaches, so take your swim suit to test the golden sands and clear water for yourself!
Paleà Perítha
Head inland to this abandoned village and feel like you are travelling back in time! Remaining from the days of Venetian rule, this medieval village is one of the best kept secrets and is the ultimate spot for an authentic Greek experience. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, Paleà Perítha boasts stunning sea views, ancient architecture and a few local taverns where you can enjoy a refreshment or two!
The historic village is nestled beneath the impressive Mount Pantokrator, the island’s highest mountain. Feeling adventurous? Hike almost 3,000 feet to the top and you will be rewarded with breath-taking views of the whole island and you can see all the way to Italy on a clear day! If this sounds too active for a holiday, you can cheat as the peak can be reached by car!
Kassiopi
Located on the northern tip of the North East coast, Kassiopi is a thriving harbour village in a picturesque setting and steeped in history. Kassiopi provides a perfect setting for relaxing by the harbour and you can find plenty of bars and restaurants to while away the hours. Make sure you sample the fresh fish brought in daily by the local fishermen!
